The Norman S. Ives Foundation is a 501–c3 nonprofit organization. The mission of the Ives Foundation is to record, disseminate and promote the work of Norman S. Ives, a fine artist, graphic designer, teacher and publisher. Ives's work helped to define a period which was a high point at Yale University's School of Art. He was an integral part of a ground-breaking program whose aim was to distinguish graphic design's evolution out of the realm of commercial art. His art—paintings, collages and sculpture—and his teaching spawned a new generation of designers and teachers who redefined the field of design. The NSIF raises funds to help preserve in perpetuity Ives's substantial archive, which, in addition to his life's work, includes a history of a formative period at Yale University Art School shaped by his colleagues; artists, designers, and students.
