Museums & Institutions - Tahoe City, California, United States
The natural and cultural histories of Lake Tahoe inform who we are and define our sense of place and our heritage. The mission of the NLTHS is to hold these histories in trust by collecting, preserving, and presenting them for all people, keeping them safe, and accessible now and for future generations. We do this in a manner that is engaging, educational and culturally sensitive through innovative programming and exhibits at the Gatekeeper's and Watson Cabin Museums of the NLTHS.The Gatekeeper's Museum and Watson Cabin place emphasis on the cultural and geographical histories that influenced the development of North Lake Tahoe. The Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum places emphasis on the historical and contemporary basketry traditions of western North America, and seeks to promote cultural awareness through programming in collaboration and consultation with native American weavers and scholars.
