The mission of the NTREC is to provide education, outreach, and technical assistance to North Texas providers in selecting, implementing, and achieving meaningful use of EHR technology to improve the quality and value of health care services in our region. Funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and selected by the Office of National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, 60 REC's have been identified throughout the country, including four in Texas. The initial funding anticipates an aggressive two year period in which targeted physicians (including primary care with less than 10 physicians, rural, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and Critical Access Hospitals) are given assistance at virtually no cost to help them achieve success with their EHR's and to qualify for generous Medicare and Medicaid incentives. There is an associated goal of assisting local educational institutions in creating programs to provide health care IT training to enhance this workforce in the community. The NTREC effort is supported by the Texas Medical Association, including local medical societies, UTSWMC, UTD, and the DFWHC Education and Research Foundation.
