The Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA) is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to assisting blind or visually impaired individuals to achieve independence and growth. NABA began on December 7, 1908, when ten blind men and women came together in an effort to overcome the difficulties of adjusting to their vision loss. Today NABA provides services and support that are responsive and flexible to the unique needs of each person we serve throughout 14 counties across eastern New York. 301 Washington Avenue in Albany houses our offices, the Dr. Harry M. Judge Rehabilitation Center and the NABA Manufacturing Department.Impaired or low vision can occur at any stage of life due to accident, aging or disease. NABA's services for the blind and visually impaired include low vision exams, Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT), Orientation and Mobility Training (O&M), disability counseling, social work, living skills, blindness training, job readiness for both employees and employers, job coaching, blind children's services, recreation for vision impaired children, volunteer opportunities, adaptive services for seniors' independence and growth, assistive technological services and products, services for the visually impaired. NABA's KidSight Program provides free vision screening for children between the ages of 18 months and four years.NABA is overseen by a Board of Directors and employs over 100 individuals. Additionally, NABA provides a variety of opportunities for volunteers and interns.
