Northumbria Blood Bikes is a charitable organisation providing logistics solutions to the National Health Service for the rapid and safe deployment of urgent blood, plasma, tissue samples and associated products between hospitals and healthcare sites in North East of England. Hospitals have previously relied on taxis or couriers to transfer urgent medical supplies outside normal business hours. We carry out this service free of charge, saving thousands of pounds that can be re-invested into front-line services and patient care.All our riders are trained to a standard far higher than legal requirements; each holding an advanced riding qualification with regular assessment & training. Every rider is fully uniformed and carries identification. Everyone works as a volunteer; our reward is the satisfaction of knowing that what we do saves time, money, and once every so often, saves lives, too.We have already received contributions to our vehicle fleet from Durham & Northumbria Police forces as well as offers of services and support from several local businesses.
