NoSchoolViolence.org is developing several free apps--The Lantern and Athena--that provide parents, schools, mental health professionals and researchers with • a free search engine that allows users to type in behaviors they see a child manifesting in order to discover how those behaviors are statistically associated with certain types of likely violence; • a dictionary of behavioral terms and definitions used for searches;• an current archive of effective violence intervention programs specific to the types of violence revealed in each search;• an automatic network generator linking any user's search with a pre-created community of supporters so that parents, teachers, school staff and mental health professionals can automatically be contacted whenever a search is made; • access to its Research Institute where the latest research in adolescent violence is translated into actual applications; and • school site and parent community workshops on the value and use of the Lantern Platform.NoSchoolViolence.org is exploring non-politically charged strategies for better insuring that parents and schools can respond to violence before it happens. The nonprofit treats youth and school violence as a public health problem by mining big data to discover adolescent behavioral patterns that trigger school violence and encouraging the tech industry, foundations, educational organizations and academic collaborators to join together to solve the epidemic of youth and school violence.
