The National Service Scheme (NSS) was evolvedand introduced by the Government of India in theyear 1969. NSS was started because of thedesirability of involving students in nationalservice. It aims at developing among students asense of participation in nation-building throughsocial work. It also inculcates the sense of doingsocial services voluntarily. NSS plays a crucialrole in the development of the latent aspects ofthe student's personality.NSS BIT Mesra is a team of over 600 studentvolunteers, working under the guidance of theProgram Coordinator and Program Officers,undertaking various activities to promote the ideaof collective responsibility among fellow students.
