Transportation/trucking/railroad - Nottingham, England, United Kingdom
At the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC) we evaluate the engineering, environmental and sustainable aspects of elements of road, rail, dock and airfield infrastructure. We perform laboratory assessment of materials that construct pavements, and we are concerned with the sustainability of transportation infrastructure, the management and maintenance of the infrastructure asset. We teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and provide training courses on these topics. We also house a commercial service for the industry to help solve practical problems. Our mission is to be an internationally renowned centre of excellence in transportation engineering, providing a focus for fundamental and applied research and technical service support for the pavement industry. This mission will be achieved in the following areas:- Pavement and rail track design and performance- Management of transport infrastructure assets - Mechanical and environmental property evaluation of materials used in the transport infrastructure- Sustainable transport infrastructure and the environmentNTEC structures itself around research themes to achieve this mission, reflecting the needs of the industries it relates to, and interacts with. The research activities can be broadly grouped under three headings; theory, implementation, and validation.
