Nuvitzo Dance was founded in Hamilton, Ontario in 2011 by dancers and performers Sean Quinlan and Andy Bermudez with a vision to revolutionize the way Salsa & Bachata were taught. In the past they found that too many dance schools produced students who had knowledge of extensive dance combinations yet little knowledge of proper structure and the inherent rhythms and driving electric energy of the music. Salsa and Bachata had become too Americanized in the sense that it began to be taught with too much emphasis on figures and tricks without any notion of musicality. These characteristics are of the Ballroom nature and there's no doubt that it was the Ballroom influence that led to the creation and perpetuation of these types of Salsa schools. But Salsa came from the streets. It is a dance of passion, joy and freedom that should be taught as such. Nuvitzo instructors therefore aim to not only teach proper technique and figures, but also focus on drawing students attention to the passion and thrill in the music. Nuvitzo has since grown to be a broader dance academy, incorporating Argentine Tango as well as Zumba Fitness and aims to be the largest Latin Dance School in the Hamilton Region.
