Through a coalition of libraries, faith and community-based groups, public agencies, and businesses, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is dedicated to helping low-income individuals and families prepare their tax returns at no cost. Known in Northern Virginia as the Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope (CASH) Campaign, this initiative runs from January, 2010 to mid-April and recruits local members of the community to prepare taxes, greet customers, and coordinate sites. Free tax certification training is provided by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to all volunteers.Sites are conveniently located throughout Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William.
