FoundingThe Multicultural Greek Council was founded at New York University on October 10, 2002 by members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc., Sigma Iota Alpha Sorority, Inc., alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, Inc., and Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. with the following founding Statement: "We, the members of Multicultural Greek Life at New York University, unite on this day -- October 10, 2002 -- to form the Multicultural Greek Council, which will hereafter be referred to as the MGC."Mission StatementThe Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) focuses on unifying and creating opportunities for all of its member organizations. Through its actions, the MGC promotes the fraternity and sorority ideals of service, leadership, culture, and brotherhood/sisterhood. The MGC also expresses the uniqueness of Multicultural Greek Life.PurposeThe Multicultural Greek Council serves many different purposes on NYU's campus. The purposes include:- To provide a forum of discussion and diplomatic council for any and all general concerns, issues, and topics that affect member organizations of the Multicultural Greek Council and the council as a whole.- To foster strong working relationships between the Multicultural Greek Council and the University as a whole. To foster unity within and amongst ourselves.- To actively engage in service that benefits the local community.- To promote cultural diversity and awareness and to support our member organizations.- To foster relationships with non-Greek organizations that cater towards cultural diversity, community service, and/or academics.- To serve as an advocacy body for issues of social injustice on NYU's campus and our world.
