Oak Leaf Productions LLC (501C3) is a nonprofit organization designed to protect and promote the Platinum Filament 5K Costume Run. The main objective of the Platinum Filament Halloween 5k Costume Run is to create a family friendly event that will draw a wide market to raise awareness for developmental disabilities through the recognition of direct support professionals. Without caring mentors who inspire a transformational experience, the growth and learning for individuals with developmental disabilities are difficult to achieve in this unique culture. The Platinum Filament name has been inspired by Mike, a participant with autism who passed away. He found motivation in his life through his enjoyment of light bulbs. The words, light bulb, were among the few words in his vocabulary. The platinum filament is the tungsten wire inside of a light bulb, through which an electric current is passed. Our goal is to turn this 5k into an annual event. This is a building year for the organization to raise seed money and donate proceeds to providers who employ direct support professionals. Predominately, Medicaid is the primary funding source for most providers. Over the years, the funding has decreased while needs have increased. Our goal is to fund a program that will assist in the development and retention of direct support professionals. We aim to help narrow the gap that exists between the true cost to provide quality care and the amount of funding that is received. We love our individuals with developmental disabilities and deeply appreciate the care that direct support professionals give. We're currently looking for sponsors who would be willing to help us fund the event.
