The Department of Counseling is committed to teaching the skills and knowledge needed to become a counselor who instills hope and healing to families, children, and individuals. The department's primary mission is to assure that graduates demonstrate the skills, abilities, and expertise required of a professional counselor in a diverse society. All programs are CACREP accredited and can accommodate both part-time and full-time students.Masters of Arts in Counseling:Clinical Mental Health Counselor- This program offers a 60 credit hour clinical mental health degree to be eligible for Michigan LLPC Licensure.School Counselor- This program offers a 50 credit hour school counseling track with the option to take 12 additional credit hours to be eligible for Michigan LLPC Licensure.Doctor of Philosophy in Education:The Ph.D. program is a 64 credit hour program designed for individuals who wish to become leaders in the field areas of advanced clinical practice, mental health care administration, counseling research, and counseling supervision. The program features rigorous training in the areas of clinical work, teaching, research, and service.
