Ocean Studios is a Community Interest Company whose aim is to provide affordable studios, workshop facilities and business support for over 100 artists. Incorporated in 2007, directors Leigh Mason and Jennifer Jayarajah have raised funds in excess of £4M to convert 1906M2 of the Grade I listed Factory Cooperage building located within the Royal William yard, Plymouth. By creating specialist provision in the form of a unique managed workspace, Ocean Studios will boost creative enterprise in the city and engage local people with the arts. The Ocean Studios offer will comprise of individual studios for shared or single occupation, incubation and communal studio spaces as well as fully equipped workshops. In addition to these, Ocean Studios will also have a large flexible space that will be used as an education/conference facility, a high specification exhibition space and a small retail outlet for artists work and other arts related merchandise. Due to open in April 2015, the vibrant creative community built around Ocean Studios will act as a catalyst, revitalising Plymouth as a cultural destination and re-engaging the city with the national arts dialogue. Once completed Ocean Studios will provide: • 35 individual self contained studios (10M2, 15M2, or 20M2) with communal sink areas • 39M2 self-contained unit with individual sink • 184 M2 Open plan studio space and incubation space for new graduates. • 118M2 of high specification exhibition/flexible space some of which will also be available for short term hire • Fully equipped workshops: print room 68M2, small scale metal workshop 50M2, photographic studio (including digital suite, dark room and developing room) 74.5M2, plaster room ,kiln room, ceramic workshop 35M2, cold glass finishing 21M2, available to hire by resident artists, associates and the general public at varying rates • Locker hire • Communal artists area
