Of Her Own Kind is a Brooklyn clothing studio inspired by the timeless beauty of pieces with a past, sustainability, and craft. We believe in creating beautiful, timeless pieces that can be worn season after season and give their wearer a sense of comfort, ease, and delight. All of our garments are created from organic, sustainable, or natural fibers and are sewn locally in New York supporting women & family-owned ateliers.We believe in preserving the craft of sewing as an artisanal skill and use classic dressmaking techniques made to last for years not seasons.Of Her Own Kind is designed & founded by Kathryn Alex inspired by her passion for beautifully made clothing, summers spent at her grandparents 200 year old farmhouse in rural Maine, and the wild beauty of upstate New York. Kathryn is a designer by education and trade, and honed her skills in luxury design while working as a designer at Prabal Gurung where she learned that beautifully made clothes can never be made fast.
