MISSION STATEMENT Ohana Arts aims to inspire and engage people through high caliber educational and professional arts programs, and to cultivate an international family (Ohana) in the Pacific through the universal language of the arts. STATEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY Ohana Arts seeks to provide opportunities for students at varying levels of experience, ability, and skill levels in a nurturing yet disciplined environment in which they can develop to the fullest artistic, ethical, and intellectual standards as individuals and responsible members of a changing global society. GOALS: 1. Ohana Arts also seeks to provide opportunities for artists, both local and National, to have a new venue for classical music concerts and operas in parks, film festivals, art installations, and more. Events celebrating the visual and performing arts are an effective way of enriching communities and bringing them together. Like the idyllic settings for many arts festivals on the mainland, Hawaii lends itself as a perfect home for the cultivation of such programs. Ohana Arts aims to establish a National haven for the arts, which many communities on the mainland enjoy, such as the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, and the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts. 2. In addition to arts programming, Ohana Arts strives to provide youth in Hawaii with opportunities for a high-quality arts education. We believe that it is of the utmost importance that we nurture the talents of youth and provide quality arts education through supplementary programs, especially during these times when arts programs in schools are undergoing major budget cuts. The arts provide youth with creative outlets and experiences that are invaluable to their development as well-rounded citizens. 2011-2012 OHANA ARTS PROGRAMS: CLASSICAL MUSIC SERIES: An outreach chamber music series will launch in the 2011-2012 season, where low-cost classical music concerts will be presented by local and international musicians in various community centers, churches, and schools in Hawaii. ARTS EDUCATION: The educational program currently consists of a summer musical theatre workshop for children ages 8-18, featuring guest teaching artists from the television, film, music, and broadway industries in Los Angeles and New York, and which culminates in a fully staged musical production. The program is one of the few of its kind that exists during the summer months in Hawaii.
