The Old Theatre Inn is located in the unspoiled Shaxi Valley, among the Himalayan foothills in Northwest Yunnan China. The Inn is run by a local teacher, Wu Yunxin and his wife Duan jipin, whose local hospitality and outstanding cooking has won prasie from guests around the world. The Inn is a theatre temple, unique to Bai tribal culture, with five simple guestrooms that accommodate international travelers in unexpected comfort. Shaxi is an historic center of the tea horse caravan road, which brought merchants from Tibet and parts of southwest China through Burma this ancient trade route. The theatre offered local musical and dramatic performances to locals and visiting traders and is still active today. Guests can experience traditional Bai instrumental performance by men from the surrounding villages. The inn offers beautiful vistas from it's front terrace as well as tours of the nearby Shaxi ancient town and Shibaoshan, 2,000 year-old Buddhist grottoes in the hills above Shaxi that have been designated a UNESCO world heritage site.
