Renewables & Environment - Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Foundation OnsVoedselbos provides a local FoodForest Community concept, which is a locally co-created, co-owned, and co-maintained food forest ecosystem, where people can directly and locally (in their own neighborhood) regenerate nature. It's an inclusive concept, that combines various activities connecting people with nature and each other, across generations and ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, within cycling distance of the community. The Foundation also provides a digital platform, where we will will help bridge the gap between stakeholders by bringing together supply, demand, and enablers. This platform is the digital marketplace for the creation of food forests and, thereby, restoration of our lost forests and biodiversity. It will help scale the OnsVoedselbos Community concept (inter)nationally. Our ambition is to transform 2% of the Dutch degraded agricultural soil into food forest before 2040. This will create 1% (45.000 hectares) newly planted nature in the Netherlands, which calculates to more than 4,2 billion kilograms CO2 absorption, every single year in the Netherlands alone! This is before going pan-European or global.
