Ontario Deaf hockey association was founded in 2011 and are made up of Deaf/Hard of hearing Hockey Players who have a hearing decibel loss of 55 or greater. The age limit to join this team is 16+.The majority of players communicate through sign & lipreading and the major language is American Sign Language. Since the Ontario team has been under the Canadian Deaf Ice Hockey Federation (CDIHF) , it has been the most highest expected turnout of Canadian players representing the Deaf Canadian Men's team as Ontario has won Gold in 2006 in Calgary, 2008 in Whitby, and 2010 in Montreal and going on to Edmonton 2012 for the Canada Deaf Games reaching its 4th Gold Medal and lastly the 2014 Roy Hysen Cup in which was placed 3rd overall. The game is played a little differently when it comes to officiating as lights around the hockey arenas are strobe lights under CDIHF rules and players shall not wear hearing aids, cochlear implants on the ice at all.We are a self funded team looking to make a difference in the sport on a provincial, national and global scale as no matter the disabilities we overcome, if we can play, we can play.We encourage and invite any deaf/Hard of hearing players interested joining this elite group of players, to contact us anytime
