Open Movements offers a unique model for social change. Rather than supporting top-down international initiatives to create economic opportunity and reduce poverty, we partner with grassroots social movements that empower marginalized communities to collectively organize and create sustainable solutions to economic exploitation. These bottom-up solutions, such as those created by the workers of the recovered businesses, are answers to initiatives such as the International Monetary Fund supported free-market structural changes that have left more than half of Argentina's population under poverty. We believe that by directly connecting individuals with these grassroots social movements – such as the recovered businesses in Argentina – we provide a critical step in the sustainable development of a rapidly globalizing world. While we believe that social change must come from the bottom up, we understand that international cooperation and solidarity can yield powerful results.
