Open Seismic Sensor Grid (OSSG) is a not-for-profit initiative founded by 7 Dutch (Groningen-based) companies that are all committed to make a difference in providing the people of Groningen with a dense, open-data network of seismic sensors. The province of Groningen is suffering increasing amounts of gas extraction-induced earthquakes affecting peoples lives and leading to severe damage to the built environment. The effects of the gas extraction, an activity governed in a joint venture between the Dutch government and the NAM (a Shell/Exxon Mobile venture) leads to intense discussions about liability between local people and the government/NAM. It is our mission to provide all stakeholders with an sound, independent, seismic monitoring network; a network that provides open data. Open data that is needed to yield a scientifically sound base for discussions, disputes and lawsuits.
