Governments are looking for solutions to achieve their open data mandate. We offer hosted CKAN data catalogues, support and open data consulting services. In July, 2013 the Canadian Government unveiled a new world class data portal, released their open data license and signed the new G8 Charter on Open Data which has "open by default" as one of its main principles. This means that Canada will be expected to publish the data resources it collects and maintains in an open, accessible format, free of charge, licensed to encourage reuse, and preferably available for download over the internet. Over the course of the next year, Canada will be publishing a directive on Open Government, which will provide guidance for government departments in publishing their data. Open data as a service is a cloud computing model where governments can use the software and infrastructure of an external hosting service like OpenGovGear to publish their data. The software allows a government to upload and catalogue date resource for public browsing and download, either through a web interface or via program calls to an API.
