Empowering communities affected by natural disasters. OpenWorld Relief is a 501(c)(3) organization that is focused on the empowerment of local communities that have been impacted by natural disasters. Our Work: We have partnered with other humanitarian relief organizations and have been sending teams down to Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria made landfall on September 20. We have sent and administered several shipments of much needed medical supplies throughout the island and have procured tarps and other materials for roof repair options. We then assisted with the repair and rebuilding of houses for Puerto Rican homeowners to protect their homes from further damage caused by wind and rain. We have also worked with the local authorities, FEMA, the Red Cross, the National Guard as well as other non-profit organizations to repair and rebuild schools in order for them to reopen.Current Mission: We are in the planning phase of a 12-month mission targeting the rebuilding of businesses throughout the island to work towards recovery and sustainability. This includes a plan to continue our health and well-being programs as well as education programs to help local populations deal with safety issues specific to the island environment. We work with local Puerto Rican leadership and their communities to put local response at the heart of our humanitarian efforts.
