Non-Profit - N/A, N/A, N/A
The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793, chartered in 1919, in continuing its effort to create a better society based on their track record of successes advanced into the area of Non-Profit Housing in the 1990's.It is from their established track record of success that the Local proposed to advance into the area of Non-Profit Housing in the 1990's. This step is consistent with the Local's concern both for its members and society as a whole. In the 1980's the growing scarcity of available land in the greater Metropolitan Toronto area has raised the cost of housing to the point where it is not affordable for most persons in the middle and lower income groups. In particular, pensioners, single parent families, and mentally and physically challenged persons are affected by this urban dilemma. Therefore, Local 793 seeks to ameliorate this problem by setting up a Non-Profit Housing Corporation to construct and develop practical and affordable housing units where its membership can reside in a diverse and multi-cultural community, including a mix of pensioners, single parent families, the mentally and physically challenged, and other qualified persons. It is in this spirit that Local 793 seeks to create Non-Profit Housing in an atmosphere of fair and sustainable development, looking back upon a proud past and looking forward towards a brighter future.
