Operation Incubation's mission is to reduce infant mortality by facilitating delivery of low-cost, low-maintenance incubators to communities in the developing world. Here are some startling facts about infant mortality across the developing world that might help your understand the urgency of our cause:- 20,000,000 low-weight and premature babies are born each year…450 of them die an hour- Every year, nearly 5 million infants die due to low birth rate and infection, most of these deaths could be prevented by access to infant incubators- A very large majority of infant mortalities due to low birth weight and infection occur in the developing world where there is little access to healthcare and a low level of sustainability.- Incubators in the first world cost between $15,000-$20,000 and are often difficult to maintain in a third world environmentBecause individuals in the developing world don't often have access to a hospital, and the hospitals that are accessible are oftentimes ill-equipped, technologically behind, and under-funded, the developing world has special needs when it comes to medical equipment. Infant incubators are no exception. For these reasons, Operation Incubation's goal is to partner with innovative and unique organizations who are currently in the process of piloting/developing infant incubators that are inexpensive and easily operable in a developing world setting. These organizations include: Embrace Global, HEBI, and Medicine Mondiale.
