ORAC Europe BV is an innovative, independent life-science company dedicated to the reliable determination of antioxidant capacity of foods, beverages, ingredients, supplements, concentrates as well as nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic end-products. ORAC Europe has its roots in the highly regarded scientific setting of Utrecht University. By combining thorough knowledge of the fields of pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, medicinal chemistry and pharmacology, ORAC Europe's scientific team is diverse, flexible and very experienced. For many years, specific features and scientific relevant effects of free radicals and antioxidants have been thoroughly studied, providing a solid base for ‘Antioxidant Science' as the core business of ORAC Europe. The abbreviation ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and the experimentally obtained value for antioxidant capacity of a sample (the so-called ORAC value), provides useful information on the capacity of that sample to neutralize potentially harmful free radicals in the human body.
