Who we are: ORSI is a global health 501(c)3 founded by orthopedic surgeon and educator Dr. Ron Israelski. We are a humanitarian group working within the state hospital system in Haiti to break down barriers inhibiting modern surgical advancement. Our programs were founded on a belief that the most effective aid is local empowerment. This is a key motivator in our program methodology which measures success by our ability to transition beneficiary relationships from mentorships to partnerships. Our Mission: To ENHANCE ORTHOPEDIC access and capability in UNDERSERVED GLOBAL COMMUNITIES by fortifying surgical infrastructure, enabling clinical advancement, and providing educational opportunity. Our Impact: Over our 11-year involvement, we have leveraged our connections within the US surgical education system to support a collaborative training program between the residents at NYU and the state hospital's in Haiti. We have sent over 30 didactic teams, donated millions of dollars in medical equipment, and arranged access to pivotal educational materials for Haitian surgical residents. Through these efforts, we have made a notable impact on Haitian orthopedics. Additionally, we have gained insight on need through long and hard-earned relationships with local beneficiaries to further shape our mission. Our Process: To ensure our educational components properly serve the people of Haiti, we have developed a comprehensive orthopedic surgical curriculum reflecting the caseload specific to the locality. We record lectures given by world-class experts in various areas of orthopedics. These lectures are then translated to French, archived, and transmitted to multiple State Hospitals in Haiti. This cohesive curriculum helps to unify the orthopedic community and break down silos of individual state hospital training programs. We have further aided the accessibility of this material by setting up supportive infrastructure including monitors and Wi-Fi capabities.
