OGL was born from the realization that the legacy, culture, and contributions of BIPOC Americans are missing from the official storyline of the founding of America due to the historical dehumanization and erasure of BIPOC Americans. Traditional history books focus on enslavement and a limited number of well-known BIPOC contributors to America. Yet, the stories of everyday people, their families, and cultural contributions to America remain invisible. Creating new American history books that celebrate the contributions of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color is a disruptive solution to the prevailing invisibility of BIPOC voices in America's history.
