Sports - Oxford, England, United Kingdom
The Oxford University Powerlifting Club (OUPLC) was re-established in 2007. We exist to help individuals interested in competing within the sport of powerlifting, and helping individuals learn how to correctly squat, bench press and deadlift. We provide training and ensure progress by providing the members with the facilities and equipment necessary to excel. Alongside dedicated powerlifters, the Club includes sporting men and women from various other disciplines such as: boxing, athletics, rugby, and gymnastics; as well as several members who simply enjoy training as part of a healthy lifestyle, without any sporting ambitions. We operate Club and squad training sessions throughout term time. Lifters of all experience levels are always welcome. The Powerlifting Varsity competition is an annual competition against Cambridge's CUPLC. A team of 16 lifters is selected from our Club members based off of competition performances, selecting the highest scorers assessed by the Wilks Points system. The Oxford University Blues Committee recognises the OUPLC as a discretionary full-blue sport.(The OUPLC is affiliated with the EPA. The EPA's governing body is the GBPF, a member of the IPF. Both Oxford University and the IPF are dedicated to giving drug-free athletes a drug-free platform to compete in a fair environment. As such, the OUPLC is a drug-free club.)
