OCDEM is a pioneering centre which combines clinical care, research and education in diabetes, endocrine and metabolic diseases. It aims to enhance understanding of these diseases and to accelerate the search for new treatments and cures.I have been part of Prof Rorsman lab. We have been studying hormone-secreting cells in the pancreas, with the advantage of having access to human pancreas cells and close to the pancreatic islet transplantation team. The work on human cells is challenging, but of an important value due to their different properties compared to rodent cells, thus highly relevant to the understanding of the causes and treatment of type 2 diabetes.
