- Springfield, Missouri, United States
Under the leadership of Springfield City Councilman Dan Chiles, Ozarks New Energy grew out of a June 2007 public meeting in which about 150 citizens discussed alternative and renewable energy in the Ozarks. The first ONE Conference was held in February 2008 primarily to build awareness of alternative energy resources and technologies and to identify expertise in the region. Following the ONE 1 Conference, the planning group incorporated as a not-for-profit and later applied for tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) entity, which it secured. The ONE 2 Conference in April/May 2009 broadened ONE's reach, providing tracks on power production, transportation, energy efficiency, farms/agriculture and public policy. The ONE 3 Conference Oct. 7-8, 2010, will offer plenary speakers, breakout sessions, workshops and field trips in the areas of power generation, green building, energy efficiency, transportation, biofuels and food security. The purpose of ONE is to promote responsible and sustainable energy choices for all of southwest Missouri in an effort to preserve and protect the natural environment for the benefit of the public and to conserve the nation's unique natural resources.
