PaardenKloof means `Valley of the horses'. The history of this 1430 -hectare farm dates back to early Khoisan tribes. The unique terroirs of the hidden valley at PaardenKloof are like no other anywhere in the world. We planted 23 hectares of vines on high altitude mountains near the sea in ancient clay, Malmesbury Shale, Sandstone and Koffieklip soils. You will taste our maritime pedigree in every bottle. Our hand-crafted wines are demarcated as Cape South Coast, Walker Bay, Bot River. We specialise in limited edition, single vineyard and single varietal wines. Current varietals include Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. New plantings include Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. The wines are all superb quality 4 star and 4.5 star Platter rated. The red wines are matured in French oak barrels for 14 months. Our vineyards border the Babilonstoren Nature Reserve and grow in tough disease-free conditions which provide the reductive fruit flavours that are required to make wine of this quality. Flavours are influenced by the fynbos plants of the amazing Cape Floral Kingdom. We are part of both the Kogelberg and Overberg biospheres and conserve more than 1000 hectares of fynbos, including endangered Western Rûens Shale Renosterveld and several IUCN red data species. Our wines are IPW, BWI, WIETA accredited and IBL audited. We champion the preservation of biodiversity. Today, leopards, wild buck, caracal, eagles, hawks, peregrines, spur wing geese and porcupines still inhabit our land. In line with our growth strategy, the building of a cellar and increased production, our vision is to develop a strong export market for our wines, focusing on niche markets that appreciate high end boutique wines.
