A woman-owned business that features fair trade, ethically produced, handcrafted apparel and artisanal home decor and jewelry. We're committed to showcasing clothing that is beautiful to look at and comfortable to wear. Our products are all made by skilled craftspeople, many of whom are using traditional techniques. We are proud to feature British designer, Nila Rubia. The fabrics for these clothes are created in a small village in India, an area known for its beautiful textiles. The ancient block-printing technique—transferring the design onto the fabric--is still done by hand, a technique that dates back to the 12th century and represents an effort to keep traditional arts and crafts alive. Using nontoxic materials, the fabrics are dyed using a process called tie and dye, or bandhani, derived from Sanskrit, and one of India's most widespread textile arts. Bandhani is the characteristic feature of Indian tie and dye—the small dot found in the center of square or circle motifs is caused by the penetration of the dye. The absence of this dot indicates that a tie and dye item was mechanically printed--not produced using traditional Indian techniques.
