PYU is an Independent Palestinian NGO, established in 1992, and registered officially under the Palestinian charitable organizations law in 2002.PYU was established as a response of the challenges that will face the Palestinian youth after the establishment of the Palestinian Authority in 1993. The main reason for the PYU establishment was to organize the Palestinian youth efforts toward active participation in building the civil, democratic and advanced Palestinian society, and to contribute effectively in the Palestinian state building process. With time PYU expended its scope to work in the political empowerment of youth and young women, economical empowerment and poverty alleviation, culture and non-curriculum education, volunteering and community service, advocacy and lobbying for youth interests. Currently PYU has 10 community centers in rural areas of west bank, and more than 800 volunteers in west bank and Gaza.PYU is a youth-led organization, where 67% of its board members are less than 35 years old, and 45% are females. Its general assembly is composed of 71% below 35 years old, and 62% females.Vision: PYU believes that the Palestinian youth is an active force in civilized, advanced and democratic Palestinian society.Mission:PYU works to develop alternatives for the Palestinian youth (males and females) in west bank and Gaza, develop their capabilities, and create an enabling environment for active participation in the different life aspects.
