Fostering a collaborative approach to the education, engagement, and standardization of hospice/palliative care in Canada. Pallium Canada is a national palliative education Community of Practice (CoP) comprised of academic, health care providers, and government and NGO leaders.The organization is led by a volunteer board of directors of the Pallium Foundation of Canada, sanctioned to deliver capacity building and public engagement strategies essential to meeting the urgent and emerging care needs for Canada's most vulnerable, those facing life-threatening illness, and their families who care for them. Pallium Canada's Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative and End-of-Life Care (LEAP) course has been nationally adapted by interprofessional health providers and is Mainpro-C accredited by the College of Family Physicians Canada (CFPC). Pallium Canada is currently working on an updated version (Version 1.3) of the Pocketbook. Printing is expected to be completed in August 2013 for distribution shortly thereafter.On March 21, 2013 the federal Economic Action Plan 2013 awarded Pallium Canada $3 million over three years to develop a spectrum of continuing professional development resources for health care providers. This initiative is intended to increase health provider capacity and develop public engagement strategies essential to meeting the need for end-of-life care.
