Behind the face of Palma Soap is a group of students from the University of Edinburgh. Starting in 2016, we initially developed links with 13 women in Malawi, aiming to develop their entrepreneurial skills as well as fighting malaria. The beneficiaries then began producing and selling sustainable, mosquito-repellent soap in their community. This created job opportunities and financial security for them, as well as providing others with an affordable method of preventing the deadly disease. At the same time, Project Scotland was set-up and we started selling luxury soaps in Edinburgh, with a plan to use the profits to support our projects abroad. Almost four years later, Palma Soap has grown to encompass much more than it once did. We have various new projects on the go, with the Malawi beneficiaries being almost completely self-sufficient. We currently have links with Malawi, Rwanda, Nigeria and the Philippines. We also sell soap in Edinburgh at markets, as well as online!
