Public speaking is an important life skill, but it's also one of the hardest to master. Many people, even adults, worry about and avoid giving speeches or presentations. We want to help students get comfortable with public speaking since it's so important in our current world, and elementary/middle school is a prime opportunity for this sort of personal development and growth.Many programs exist specifically for this purpose, but most have long waiting lists and charge exorbitant fees. For example, speech and debate instruction at one local organization costs six hundred dollars per semester.That is why we started Paragon Debate— to increase access to public speaking and debate instruction by providing free classes to elementary and middle schoolers across Montgomery County. Our group classes consist of interactive speech and debate drills/activities that focus on helping students with speaking fluency, persuasion, critical thinking, and research. These activities are tried and tested— collectively, we've taught hundreds of students in the past two years.All of our instructors have high school competitive speech or debate backgrounds and previous teaching experience. They have won tournaments, earned awards, and most are nationally ranked. All of our instructors are passionate about sharing their knowledge with younger students.
