Non-Profit - Charlotte, NC, US
Parkinson Association of the Carolinas (PAC) was formally recognized as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in 2002 with a mission "to serve as a resource for individuals and their families affected by Parkinson's disease in the Carolinas, through education, community outreach and direct support". It is our goal to provide patients with the tools needed to: Manage symptoms; Adapt to daily challenges; Advocate for the best treatment; Manage financial burdens; Be a voice in finding a cure. As a result, patients are able to remain independent, stay active and maintain a good quality of life while feeling empowered to guide their own journey with the Disease. The cause of Parkinson's disease is unknown, and although there is presently no cure, there are treatment options available such as medication therapy and surgery to manage the symptoms. It is estimated that nearly one million people in the US are living with Parkinson's disease, with 56,000 living in North and South Carolina.
