Parkside Timber is part of Parkside Group a family owned business since 1947. Parkside was first created by Bruno Tapiolas a Spanish immigrant who after farming in North Queensland saw a gap in the market for good quality timber to be made available. After sourcing his own timber for his own family home, word spread quickly that he had found good timber and Bruno began to sell to others his loads. From necessity, Bruno saw the opportunity and a fledgling timber business was born with the start of the timber sales and joinery business in Ayr in 1947.Not satisfied with selling building materials and timber, Bruno decided to start his own building company - Tropical Homes (www.tropicalhomes.com.au) one of Queensland's largest project home builders with well over 15,000 homes built. The company, by this stage - Bruno's with his 3 sons Wilfred, Brunie and Joe grew very quickly and the company needed a guaranteed supply of timber.Parkside acquired the first sawmill at Eungella in 1962 and then in 1966 expanded their timber sales and building materials business to Townsville as well.In 1972 there was an opportunity to acquire a much larger and efficient sawmill in Mackay and the Eungella mill was closed. However several years later there was a change in government policy which forced the closure of mills across Queensland including. However, the Tapiolas family did not lose their passion for timber and in 1989 when the opportunity came, acquired the Builyan Sawmill from Boral. Over the next decade, Parkside also acquired additional mills at Theodore, Wandoan and Eidsvold and Wondai. With most recently in December 2019 acquiring Greenbushes and Nannup in Western Australia and Orbost and Bairnsdale in Victoria.
