Arts and Crafts - N/A, N/A, UK
Parrabbola is a cultural organisation that specialises in community engagement through participatory creative activity. Parrabbola has a small management and artistic team that brings together independent freelance arts and cultural practitioners to work co-operatively on its community play, street festival projects and development programmes both in the UK and overseas. Parrabbola works in partnership with communities and cultural organisations to engage people in the creative expression of their own lives and histories. Parrabbola's method of working ensures that projects evolve from their local environment and are well embedded within a particular community, enabling it to be responsive to and driven by local needs and aspirations, supported by local partners. Work is based on background research alongside observations, conversations and detailed information gathering within the community. These discoveries influence artistic and stylistic choices, but also ensure that local people are able to contribute at many levels, that the activity belongs to them, is enjoyable and engaging, develops skills and builds a creative legacy.
