Founded in 2017, Pasar Malam aspires to incite a new wave of Indonesian cinema that is universal in its outlook towards the human condition, while also still being specifically Indonesian. Taking inspiration from past cinematic movements, we seek to bring the revolutionary spirit of French and Taiwanese New Wave filmmakers to Indonesia. We believe that a great film should not only have artistic merits, but it should also be culturally-relevant enough to engage a large audience.
