Paterno Wine Connection was founded as a consulting firm to assist Italian wineries with international promotion and sales. Wine has been in Piero's family as far back as the 1700's, when his family outside San Severino harvested grapes from their nearby vineyards at San Giovanni and produced it in their home. Today that same ancient wine press in the now-restored country house reveals its age, with the date of 1839 carved into its lintel. Although the family no longer produces, the history remains, as does an appreciation for well-made wine. Piero and Liz have learned to appreciate the exceptional character of food and wine produced with craftsmanship in this beautiful country where things move at a slower pace. In Italy, the deepest roots of Italian culinary production – small scale, artisanal and steeped in history – are truly to be savored and shared. They meet each of the producers they represent, who take tremendous pride in working the land to create something they love. The character of natural wines produced by those whose families have often been involved for generations is extraordinary. They look forward to sharing it with you.
