Civic & Social Organization - Palm Springs, California, United States
We are a Non-Profit 501(c)3 dedicated to assisting Veterans of the US Military whom find themselves injured with impaired mobility. We accept applicants that would benefit from the assistance of a professionally trained Service Dog that would help them with daily tasks and further assist them in maintaining an active lifestyle. A Service Dog is trained to specifically meet the needs of each individual Veteran. The Veterans specific needs are assessed by our staff and thru this the specific training program is developed. I started PAWZ for Veterans after I found myself injured while on active duty. My injury resulted in my being confined to a wheelchair and unable to walk. After making the round thru the VA System and the Civilian Medical System I found myself having to face the fact that I was paralyzed from the waist down. As I started looking for ways to once again be an active member of life. I had the pleasure of meeting another Veteran who has a beautiful Service Dog. After talking with him about his Service Dog and seeing all that his helper was able to do for him and just how much of a difference his Service Dog made in his life I decided to look into getting one. Presidents Clinton & Obama along with Congress directed the VA that Veteran who's mobility was impaired were elligable for a Service Dog, per Federal Law Service Dogs are NOT PETS they are the same as a prostetic device. Service Dog's can cost as much as $30,000 plus about $1,000 per year.
