Civic & Social Organization - Plymouth, England, United Kingdom
PCQ is a community arts company based in Plymouth. We hold arts evenings, stage exhibitions and events, alongside producing a quarterly magazine and running arts courses. Our mission is to raise equality, diversity and awareness by breaking down boundaries through art. PCQ is about stories expressed through art and all its forms of beauty. Art in all its shapes and forms is relevant. PCQ encourages all people - from any ethnic background, able bodied or not, all ages, creeds, genders - to express themselves through art. Art is for all people and should not be exclusive to art academics and ‘professional' artists. PCQ aims to raise equality and diversity awareness through working within communities. Art is universal and therefore should be universally performed and exhibited. We believe art does not merely belong in a gallery space - it is for this reason that we take art out of gallery spaces in order to break boundaries and misconceptions. PCQ art is: • Uncensored expression • Realism • DIY - individual expression working together or independently • Experimentation • Mysterious and open to interpretation • Against novelty and gimmicks • Against convention in art • Spiritual of the mind, subconsciously and unconsciously • A tool for self-exploration • A medium through which one can make oneself understood in order to connect with others
