The challenges facing boys on the peninsula are not unique. They face a world with conflicting messages about masculinity. They are asked to learn in outdated modes. Their emotions are stifled and dismissed. They are also witnessing an important time in our culture where we are confronting norms about how men and women relate to each other. Our community shows them the exceptional privilege men inherit in our world, in particular white men; our school will be designed to have them embrace their masculinity while simultaneously challenge their privilege, interrogate racial hierarchies and implicit biases, and understand that power comes from compassion and not control.
