In the late 1980's, Fabio Perini's quest to consolidate the production infrastructure of the Naval Division drove him to seek capacity further afield than Italy alone. Turkey's proximity to the Headquarters in Viareggio, the existence of suitable infrastructural sites ripe for development and abundant qualified labour led to the natural choice of incorporating a Turkish company to pursue this goal of expansion. The result was Perini Istanbul Gemicilik A.S. and the chosen site for subsequent acquisition and development - Yildiz Gemi ve Makine San. Tic. A.S.Yildiz Gemi started its activity in 1975 at its present location in the Tuzla Bay shipyard area of Istanbul. The result of the injection of foreign capital, by the yard's principal partner, has been the transformation of some 40,000 square meters of waterfront mud into what may now be considered as one of the numbered yards in the Mediterranean basin. The Yacht construction facility consists of 5,450sq.m of covered prefabrication and erection sheds, 1,600sq.m of covered workshops, a 1944sq.m aluminium prefabrication and stock shed, a 100m slipway with a 55m extension underwater, 864sq.m of high quality personnel facilities and 1300sq.m of office and lodging space. The remaining area has been given over to access roads, plate stockyard, future expansion and even 8,000sq.m of freshly mowed lawns.
