I joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1954 through the Venture Plan. After completed training, spending a year at sea on a destroyer and achieving my Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate I applied for the submarine service. I was accepted, and in July 1958 went to the UK to do the Royal Navy Submarine Officers Training Course. I then spent most of the next ten years serving on Royal Navy submarines - HM Submarines Sea Scout, Grampus, Acheron, Osiris and Aeneas. I passed the RN Submarine Commanding Officers Qualifying Course (Perisher) in August 1968. I returned to Canada, took command of HMCS Grilse. This was followed by command of HMC Submarines Rainbow, Onondaga, Ojibwa and Okanagan.I have been retired from the RCN since 1992. I started my business in 1998 while living in Ontario and brought it with me when we moved to Campbell River, BC in 2004.I manage and do all operations of my business.
