Permaculture GTA is an ever-evolving tribe of leaders, working on projects and initiatives which foster safe and balanced environments. Created in 2008, Permaculture GTA currently operates in Toronto, South-Carolina, Nigeria and Jamaica. PGTA is stewarded by Toyin Coker and receives funding and other provisions from donors, supporters, community members and partners.Through our work, we nurture our humanity by educating and embracing a social, spiritual and ecological permaculture lifestyle. We apply our skills and relations towards the education and liberation of local leaders, groups and communities. The grand mission of Permaculture GTA is to implement sustainable food producing ecosystems within the surrounding city area through the establishment of a grass-roots network of educators, agriculturalists (both urban and rural), designers and administrative representatives. Permaculture, in its formal term, has been a practicing movement for nearly four decades; however, it identifies with pre-industrial examples of sustainable land use. As a result, Permaculture GTA includes the preservation of indigenous cultures and practices, with ecological design principles in its mission as well. Our actions demonstrate alternatives in food production and energy savings through permaculture systems, to promote economic viability of natural resources, and to strategically incorporate community engagement to this holistic level – targeting marginalized communities in the "suburban sprawl setting".
