Persephone was founded in 2012 by Berkeley natives Aaron Cole and Jane Hartman. Aaron had been crafting hair care products since 2007 as a hobby, and came up on the notion of using raw ingredients as a natural substitute for synthetics. After sharing the idea with Jane, they began to tweak the formulas to be salon friendly and manageable for at home use. Persephone looks to redefine the standard approach to designer cosmetics and bring about the same standards of sustainable practices and local ingredients to hair care that has been revolutionizing the culture of organic produce in the past decade.
