PIAM provide advice and support in assessing viable solutions for parties who want to avail of debt solution options available under the new Personal Insolvency legislation. If you are unable to pay your debts and do not see yourself being able to do so in the next few years there are now 4 debt solutions which may help you. Which option is right for you will depend on how much you owe, the type of debt, your income, and your assets. The 4 options available are: 1. DRN: where debts are below €35,000 and your income after RLE is under €60 per month with limited assets (broadly max €400). MABS are the approved intermediary for DRNs. 2. DSA: which applies to unsecured debts and you must use a PIP to avail of this solution. 3. PIA: debts covered are secured and unsecured, with a cap of €3 million for secured (variable by consent) with no cap on unsecured debts and again, you must use a PIP to avail of this solution. 4. Bankruptcy: secured and unsecured debts greater than €20,000. You can apply for bankruptcy personally, but professional advice is recommended. PIAM (Personal Insolvency Advice & Mediation) has recently opened for business based in Galway, covering all of Ireland with a mission of assisting debtors and creditors in identifying a meaningful, equitable and sustainable debt solution.
